Srebarna

Nature/Location

The Srebarna Nature Reserve is located in the northeast region of Bulgaria - a few kilometers from the Danube river, 18 km west of Silistra. It comprises Lake Srebarna and its surroundings and is an important wetland located on the Via Pontica, a bird migration route between Europe and Africa. As a result, it provides nesting and migratory habitat for many endangered bird species.

The reserve embraces 6 km2 of protected area and a buffer zone of 5.4 km2. The lake’s depth varies from 1 to 3 m. There is a museum constructed, where a collection of stuffed species typical for the reserve is arranged.

Camping Site/Stay recommendation

  • There is a big village fountain - from the main road take the exit left before the stadium.
  • There is a good store at the village centrum.
  • Along the dirt road/eco trails that goes along the lake there is a nice place to camp.

  • Bird Watching
  • Wild life - birds are not the only wild habitants - we have seen a turtle, snakes, fox like predator.
  • Museum - the museum is exceptional. Entrace fee is 5lv(2.5EUR) adults. It is listed in the Bulgariant Top 100 Tourist Places.

How long you should stay?

There are a several eco trails to walk. Along the trails there are observation points. You will spend two or three days there without getting bored.
